Original artwork in paint and thread of rooks disturbed into the air on the South Downs, West Sussex. Piece is worked over natural fabrics - calicos and silk noil, which are layered to form a textured background and then painted before being free motion embroidered in natural rayon threads.
The view itself was taken on a walk on the South Downs on a cold and misty afternoon in winter. As we emerged from the trees we disturbed some rooks who had been in the fields and watched as they rose into the sky and disappeared into the mist. The view had all the colours and details muted by the veil of mist and the swirling birds looked like dancers climbing into the sky.
