One in my series of small original embroideries capturing local views around the South Downs and inspired by the work of Eric Ravilious. Free machine embroidery lends itself to painting with thread in thin lines and so this is my nod to his fine stripey brushstrokes and quiet colour palette.
This view is from the South Downs Way near Houghton on the River Arun, with the chalk path inviting us into the distance towards two cyclists just appearing around the bend.
Piece is worked over cotton calico, painted and then embroidered with rayon threads.
